    Durable Drainage Solution at the Port of Darwin

    Faced with an ongoing issue at the Port of Darwin, Ascent Contracting was called in to find a solution where others had struggled. With our deep understanding of formwork and concrete, we developed a unique approach that quietly resolved the problem. Could we transform a persistent challenge into a reliable, long-lasting asset? The answer lies in the fact that, to this day, our solution continues to serve the port’s operations without interruption.

    The Challenge

    The stormwater drain at the new wharf was continually damaged by heavy vehicles, despite three repair attempts. The challenge was to create a more robust system while working in a live environment, ensuring minimal disruption to the port’s operations.

    The Solution

    We proposed replacing the pre-fabricated drainage system with a custom-built form concrete drain, reinforced with a heavier grating system. This solution was engineered and installed while adhering to Northern Territory standards, ensuring long-term durability in a challenging operational environment.

    The Result

    Our custom concrete drainage system has remained operational for over nine years, standing up to heavy use and harsh conditions. The solution met the required safety and operational standards, proving to be a long-term fix for the Port of Darwin’s infrastructure needs.
